From my last entry, I was going to be running Linux on my workstation, but I found that I was needing some of the programs that I use at work and used to use here at the house, so I made the decision to go back to Windows.
When I did, I tried loading the Compaq Restore disks. That didn’t work as well as I had planned. It didn’t recognize the resolution capability of the monitor or video card and a few other things. I decided at that point to try installing Windows XP. Guess what? XP installed fine! I think that XP will be better for me in the long run anyway.
I can run the programs that I need and get help from TechTV on the capabilities of XP, etc.
Besides, XP is by far the best o/s I’ve used in a long time. I really enjoyed it when I was working with it on the Dell Notebook (before I got so concerned about Kay Thomas finding out that I took it off).
Anyway, back to XP, THANK GOD!
Oh, I got Mom and Dad’s computer setup at home and them on the Internet. Mom has written me an e-mail every day (I think). I believe she really likes it.
When I first started showing her how to use it, I forgot that it’s been a very long time since she’s been on a keyboard and she’s never worked with Windows or the Internet.
I need to remember to be patient with her and help her as much as I can. I absolutely love having her on e-mail now!
