I know that there are several posts about “home time”, but when you are gone most of the time, home time is special.
I don’t have the luxury of going home every day after work. Nor do I have the extreme luxury of having a weekend off each week (at home). My “home time” is something that is very special to me and I don’t think that I’ll ever see it as “the norm”.
I got home around 9:00am yesterday morning. My boss (dispatcher) was coming to Sherman and I asked if I could get a ride from him. He said that he knew we would be heading to Sherman close to the same time, but he didn’t offer because he couldn’t wait on me. Absolutely understandable. When I asked him for the ride, he did not hesitate to say “yes”. He’s a good man and I really do appreciate him, but that is another story.
After I got home, my wife, Kathy, had said that my boys were wanting to see Captain Marvel (the movie). I told her that I’d like to see it also. We decided to see it and the best time for all of us to go was at 1:00pm yesterday.
Mike and Matt (my two sons), Kaiden and Charlie (my two grandsons) and I went to the Cinemark Theaters and watched the movie. It was hard to follow for a while. It had some exciting parts in it. It was humorous and I enjoyed that. Plus, it answered a few questions about a few of the Marvel characters. For instance, how did Nick Fury lose his left eye? That was answered in the movie.
It was a movie that was sponsored by the US Air Force! I loved that part of it. Go Air Force! Aim High! Fly – Fight – Win!
We enjoyed popcorn and a drink. It was not cheap, but it was worth the time and the money. I enjoyed hanging out with all of my boys. Kathy enjoyed a nice quiet time at the house.
Home Time. It’s a very special thing for me. I hope it is for everyone.
The Good? It was a very good day.
The Bad? The day is over now. I tried to make it last longer than 24 hours, but I just haven’t figured out how to do that yet.
I had a really good lunch with my wife and oldest son and his wife. We took her out to Olive Garden for her birthday (a couple of days ago). We all had our “favorites” and had enough that everyone got to take a “doggy bag” home for later.
Tomorrow is our visit with Mom. It will be real good because I haven’t spent any time with her in quite some time. I’m missing our visits! We talk on the phone often, but it’s just not the same.
Well, I’ve run out of juice. I have to get some sleep. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and keep the shiny side up!
I’m working local today because tomorrow is the start of my vacation. I’ve got this weekend, then Monday thru Friday and next weekend OFF! The last time I had two days off in a row was February 27th and 28th! The last time I had a full 34 hour break was 31 days ago! I am exhausted and will be so happy when today is over. I wish I didn’t have to go in today, but Tony can use someone else local. Anyway, one more day won’t hurt. Well, it’s time. Keep the shiny side up!
For the past two and a half days, I’ve been back on the job. I like the money I make with this job, but I have no life! I go to work and when I finally come home, I want to do a few things that I don’t get to do on the road. I like spending time on the Internet and with my computers. I want to spend time with my wife. My computers are always available to me, but my wife works, so she is not. It’s difficult.
Most jobs are go to work in the morning and get off in the late afternoon (8 or 9 hours later). My days start early in the morning and finish normally after 12 to 14 hours later. When I get home, it’s a week later and I only have 34 hours off (sometimes 48). Weekends… ???? What weekends????
Kathy told me yesterday that I don’t have to be a truck driver, but I have to be able to make as much money as I am now! I can’t just walk away from this job.
How does one do this job and still feel like he has a life at home? Anyone know? If so, please let me know. Thanks!
I have been on vacation now since last Monday. I had to go to the doctor on Monday because I was sick the last three days of my trip to Salt Lake City, UT. I’ve been sick all this week! Today is the first day that I feel a little more like a human and I have to go to work tomorrow! Oh well, ‘such is life…’
The one thing that I’ve done this week is install Windows 7 on my Compaq laptop. All I can say is… WOW! I really like it. It runs faster and I really like the new taskbar. It is a really big help to me with all of the applications I run on a normal day. You can pin your most used apps to the start menu AND you can pin the most used data file to that app on the task bar. Right click on the app and it shows you a context menu that has your last used data files and the ones you pin to the app at the top. Using my personal map with Streets and Trips 2009 is available without having to open Explorer and finding the correct folder then clicking on the data file. It’s just there! Wow… Thanks Microsoft! Of course, I only looked at it from a “normal” days use of the O/S.
